Media Department Philosophy and Mission
Four academic years of study and the Bachelor of
Media is attained.
The department is interested in including the
educational programs and printed media production activities (journals,
magazines, periodicals) and electronic digital production (blogs –advertisements
– electronic journals – multimedia products)
The department aims at preparing the media and
journalistic juniors who are highly qualified.
It copes with the revolution of media and
communication through presenting a new experiment in the system of journalistic
qualification. Its programs connect the journalistic practice to the scientific
theory in media and communication and present the principles and newly found
aspects in modern journalistic arts since it allows those enrolled in the
department to work in the journalism and media means of the twenty first
Laboratories and Facilities:
The lab of Mechanical Photography and Montage:
allows the students of the different departments of the
academy to theoretically study mechanical photography
and montage which is considered a major topic in the
curricula of printing technology which are taught in the
academy and allows the students to get acquainted with
the latest printing systems and technologies.
The language lab aims at developing the skills of
acquiring foreign languages for the students of the different departments in the
academy. It also trains the students of Journalism Department the art of
presentation and conversing in both the Arabic and English language in addition
to the field of media translation skills.
The language lab in the academy includes the following components:
The main control unit of the lecturer.
- Thirty cabins for the students including thirty controlling unit through which the student can
record alone or in the context of a group and offer training modules.
- Video set and the monitor used to deliver a lecture and present visual and auditory training
The Journalistic Directory Lab:
It is the lab which enables the students of the
Journalism Department train on the programs of journalistic publishing and
designing. It prepares the graduate students to be able to design the journal
and produce it on the computer.
The lab includes 25 Apple Macintosh (IMAC) on
which the students are trained to use programs as Adobe Photoshop, Freehand, and
other graphic programs.
Internet and Electronic Journalism Lab:
The Electronic Journalism represents a main field
in that of media production in general and in production via internet in
particular. The academy is keen on training the students in the department of
Journalism on the principles and rules of editing and designing the web sites
through this lab which includes 21 computers connected to the internet.
In the context of the interest of the academy in
offering a complete educational sample bringing together the theoretical study
and the scientific application, Akhbar a-Yom academy has issued a journal –
Akhbar October – to train the students of Journalism on the different stages
of journalistic work. The students prepare, edit and produce the journal under
the supervision of a large number of journalists in Akhbar al-Yom institution
through the production lounge of Akhbar October.
The Department organizes annual summer training
for the students of all the academic years. The training takes place on two
Firstly, the internal level:
Theoretical training: through it there are theoretical
lectures held to share the experiences and build a bridge of communication
between the students and the media men in addition to the lectures in both the
Arabic and English language.

Secondly, the external level:
It occurs through training the students in the
publications of the various journalistic institutions which hence offers job
opportunities for the superior students.
The students of Journalism Department prepares
their graduation project in their final academic year; it is usually a journal
or a magazine in which a group of students participate in and supervised by
specialist professors in the field of media and experts in the field of
journalism. The project is discussed in the end of the final academic year.
